721X trimmed the roots and transplanted our “crop” to a new tower with fresh nutrient water. We’re planning on planting a new tower with mint, and one with flowers, which would be a new concept for us.

Here are some photos from the 721X Green Bronx Machine Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Wednesday. As you can see, it was kind of a big deal! Representatives from the Mayors Office, Empire Blue Cross and Anthem Health, local new organizations, our Superintendent, coaches, teachers, parents, students, and many more were in attendance. Thank you to Stephen Ritz of GBM, teacher (and farmer) extraordinaire Jeremy Kottcamp, and Principal Frank Degennaro for a very special day.
Jeremy K of 721X writes that “We have 300 plus plants started. We’re comparing florescent and LED lighting.”

I have two sets of photos here. One of the garden to table event. The kale was used in the smoothies we prepared for the entire school-staff and students.
The other photos are from the 20 yards of dirt we ordered with grant finds to fill more beds.

Jeremy Kottkamp of 721X sent in these photographs. The students were participating in a Garden to Cafe event, peeling, slicing and preparing their vegetables.
According to Jeremy K,
“This is our remaining tomato harvest from the fall. They were picked green before the last frost and they are ripening inside our classroom.”
Some of the produce from the garden. We did some cooking. Veggie pizzas with herbs, fresh salad, etc… They are learning to cook simple fresh meals.
