Last Friday, we had a full day PD for teachers- all about composting! Here are some photos of Greg, our in-house Master Composter, leading the group at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden . Many thanks to BBG and the Master Composters for having us!

Indoor Garden at 754X. Unidentified hand.

Here are some photos from the 373K garden. You can see the new greenhouse being constructed and some beds being prepared for spring planting. Some plants from last year have already come back up, including everybody’s favorite– strawberries!

Here are some pictures from the 993Q rooftop garden at Frank Sinatra High School. We are getting our garden ready for the warm weather! This morning we planted some asparagus.  Our students have been composting and are seeing the benefits within our soil!

Thank you science teacher Dianne Hilaire-Newton and assistant principal Lori Heffez for the photos. The bell pepper was grown indoors at 36K @224 and the outdoor photos are from 36K @ Flatbush Town Hall. Nice work!

Thanks to teacher Melanie Tiang for sharing these photos of her students beginning their year-long garden investigation at the New York Botanical Gardens. Students from 10 different schools have been exploring, making observations and collecting data in Brooklyn and the Bronx and will be sharing their findings with us at the end of the year. Great work, everyone!

The PLG 101 Workshop met at 373K. As you can see, there is nothing contrary about this garden! Thank you Maura Flanagan for showing us your students’ green thumbs!

Hello Plant Learn Growers! We have just announced an exciting year-long field investigation study to be conducted for 10 selected schools from The Bronx and Brooklyn. Each of the schools will visit their respective Botanical Garden four times throughout the year to make observations, collect data, and learn about our natural environment. D 75 staff attended the New York Botanical Garden staff training day on Wednesday to work with garden staff in preparation for our students’ initial visits. More to come!

Thanks Lori Heffez!

During the workshop, I spied some ground rainbows. Good work, sprinkler!
